Relationship between Motivation and Leadership styles




According to the Ordway Tead, Leadership is that “combination of qualities by the possession of which one is able to get something done by others, chiefly because through his influence they become willing to do so”.
Motivation and leadership is two difference words but these two have very close relationship. An efficient leader main duty is to motivate their subordinates. Therefore leaders act like a captain of the team. He tries to win the confidence of his colleagues and subordinates. He also adopts motivational devices to stimulate them for performing their duties with interest, loyalty and sincerity. Therefore they have interrelated relationship.
           Coercive leaders
These types of leaders are important when the organization is a downfall. The most important thing is work of the organization should be done accurately and efficiently. Accordingly indefinite situation of the organization this method could be use to operate the working system of the employees.Sadam Husain and Adolph Hitler can be taken in to this type of leaders. They take several actions to motivate their subordinates such as,               
·         Immediately takes strict decisions.
·         To increase the responsibilities given to them.
·         The subordinates must also follow order given by the top level management.
·         Top level management stresses the subordinates with regard to their works.
·         They can directly order to the subordinates with regarding to their works.
·          Take direct decisions.
·         They can order punishment to their subordinates.
                         
       Pace setting leaders
This type of leaders always order to imitate their work as they do. It means do as I do now. They have a good knowledge and experience with regards to this type of work. They should not control their subordinates always. But they must set examples to them. They take several actions to motivate their subordinates. Such as,
·         The work you do should be clearly and accurately shown to the subordinates to follow.
·         The employees who shown poor performances should be brought to the correct position by giving encouragement and advices. If aimid all this actions, if they do not come to a right position an immediate replacement should be done.
                    Therefore when appointing pace setting leaders they should be skills, attitudes, knowledge and experience. Jack Welch (CEO of the general electronics) comes under the above leadership category.


       Coaching Leaders
This type of leaders share and divide their knowledge, skills and experiences. They like to help their subordinates. Therefore they share their ideas and opinions. These types of leaders are very familiar with the subordinates. For example, Robert Patterson (CEO National cash register) mentored Thomas
Watson (Founder of IBM).They do several things to motivate their employees. They are as follows,  

·          To give more challenge to subordinates
·         To take feed backs from subordinates’ frequently.
·         To do practice always
·         To give make positive environment to work 
       Affiliative Leaders
These types of leaders are very friendly with their followers. They always try to keep coworkers happy and united work environment. This type of leaders follows these to do their coworkers motivation.
·           Give positive feed backs always.
·           Give incentives, rewards to do job well.
·           Give a feeling a part of this organization (sense of belonging needs)
·           Provide a positive work environment
Coffee anon and joe torre (the manager of New York yankee baseball team) can be taken in to this type of leaders.

       Autocratic Leaders
This type of leaders always follows a dictatorship method. They always follow a lawful method to control coworkers. They never involve in decision making process. They always force, threat and show their powers to get the work done out of their goals. They are not very friendly with their subordinates and they also no fun in work environment. Accordingly this type of leadership becomes more important when the moral fell down of the employees. This type of leadership could be shown by the president of Venezuela who is known as Hugo Chavez.  They do several things to motivate their subordinates. Such as,
·         Increase operation conditions
·         To get work done out of the subordinates stressfully.
·         Give more responsibilities.
·         Order directly to required person the things he has to tell.
                                                
       Democratic Leaders
This type of leaders always participate people to decision making process. This type of leaders are always become flexible persons. They are been always selected by the people.
             E.g.: Barak Obama could be taken to this grade. He shows a flexible    leadership and he is bearable person. His policies are not so strict.
                                Accordingly they always share their ideas among their   subordinates and also they can do various things to motivate their subordinates, as follows,
·         To divide the power among their subordinates.
·         To inquire the subordinates about their ideas.
·         They invited to participate to subordinates for decision making through this encourage them.
·         To allow the subordinates to work as they like on their own deadlines.
·         Share leadership

      Authoritative Leaders
These types of leaders always ask them to follow them. Mostly these leaders become important when the vision is not clear of the organization.Specially, Bilgates and John f Kennedy could be taken as Authoritative leaders.   The followers of the organization are not inefficient situation this type of leadership become an important. In this case, to motivate their subordinates,
·         Create positive work environment
·         Give incentives
·         Increase the work of subordinates
